Coming Soon: A CodeIgniter CMS

Posted Nov 18, 2009. Filed under SiteManagr.

COMING SOON: an easy-to-use, full featured content management system (CMS) built on the open source CodeIgniter PHP framework.

What can it do?

There's lots that this CMS can do! Here's a short list of features:

  • Events - Manage past and future events with an AJAX powered calendar.
  • Posts - Power your blog with this CMS. Featuring management of post categories, tags, comments. Even includes Twitter integration with Bit.ly URL's!
  • Links - View and edit your web links and URL's all in one place.
  • Photos - Upload, edit and share photos. Photo's are automatically resized and thumbnails are created when uploading.
  • Media - Upload and share any type of media, documents, files etc.
  • Merchandise - Manage your merchandise, with details, photos, categories etc.
  • Email - Send newsletters out to your users. Keep track of users emails.
  • Analytics - Monitor the traffic your site receives.
  • Clients and Invoicing - Manage your clients and their contact info. Create, track and send invoices for your work.
  • Users - Manage users that are allowed to access and use the CMS.

... and lots more features to come!

What's left to do?

There's still a bit of work I need to do before releasing this. Mostly testing the features, and ensuring the portability of the CMS so it will work on your server and write documentation/instructions. I also still need to think of a good name for it. If you have a great idea, post it in the comments!

What are the server requirements?

If you are already running CodeIgniter on your server, then you have nothing to worry about! If you're not running CodeIgniter, then no problem. All you need is a webserver/host that offers PHP 5+ and MySQL.

Can I see it, try it or download it?

EDIT: Yes! You can download it here: SiteManagr-Install.zip (1.26MB). It comes bundled with CodeIgniter 1.7.2 and some quick install instructions along with a database script to setup the tables and default data. You can also take it for a test drive HERE. Login with user: admin, pass: 1234.

The CMS is not quite ready for a demo, or downloading, but you can see a few screenshots at the end of this post. Also you can see the CMS in action as I'm currently testing it on this very site, and the following sites: theactionband.com, fultonspeedway.com. If you'd like to be the first to get a copy when the CMS is ready for release then post a comment and include your email, or contact me.

Looks nice. Seems geared more toward blog than full on CMS. Most people would just download Wordpress I would think. I would really love to have something a little more like a CMS but it seems to be well perform fine. I'll tinker with it some more.

As a side note, the Fulton Speedway website, there is an issue with the navigation menu. The menus pop up, but whne you try to mouse to one, it goes away...seems like a little fluke in the css. Just sayin.

I'm very interested in good (and finished) CI-based CMS. And your one looks really promising.

I will be hapy to be beta tester of it.

Is it going to be a hosted solution or will we be able to host it ourselves?
